About this Tour

We start the tour visiting the Christ King Sanctuary, which stands high above the southern banks of the Tejo river estuary, and depicts Christ with arms raised, blessing the city. Cristo Rei dates from the 1950s and its construction was in reverence for Portugal avoiding the horrors of WW2. Since its consecration in 1959 Cristo Rei has been an important Portuguese pilgrim destination.

We follow towards Panoramic lift Boca do Vento. This accessible panoramic lift connects the historic quarters of Almada, situated on a hill next to the Tejo river, with the former Olho de Boi shipyards. Nowadays they have converted in a leisure zone. The trip will lead you to a garden area by the water, offering a superb panorama of Lisbon.

After lunch we will visit Quinta da Bacalhôa. There, you can visit the winery and taste wines, as well as discover the different collections which are divided into three groups: Out of Africa, an exhibition paying tribute to Nelson Mandela; What a Wonderful World!, an art nouveau and art deco collection whose bright colours and metallic tones will enthral you; and Portuguese Azulejos from the 16th Century to the 20th Century which, as the name indicates, is a showcase of five centuries of a unique cultural and artistic heritage in the world. These tours thus bring together wine, nature and art. From the wine-tasting room, you can also take in the tranquil setting of the Japanese Garden, where you can admire part of the collection by the sculptor Niizuma, as well as the Kaki tree, “great granddaughter of the only tree to have survived the Nagasaki bomb”.
